Beds & Boudoir (Part 1)

Our Behind-the-Sets Series

When people hear that Jamie and I started The Adore Girls together, they usually assume I picked up the camera first. But I didn’t. I picked up the furniture.

Before I ever photographed a single client, I was our set designer. My love for interiors runs deep. I get it from my mama, who was always rearranging furniture and making a space feel brand new just by shifting a few things around. It must be in my blood.

When we launched this business back in 2012, I was living in an old warehouse loft that became our first studio space. That place gave me the freedom to experiment and create different environments whenever I felt inspired. I still do that today — and it’s one of my favorite parts of the job.

Every client who walks through our doors gets a space designed just for them.

Let’s Talk About Beds

Beds are the center of a lot of sessions. They can feel soft and romantic, dark and moody, strong and sexy. It all depends on your wardrobe, your vibe, and how we style the set around you.

What most people don’t realize is this:

We design the set during your hair and makeup time, based on what you bring and what you want.

Step One: You Show Up, We Go Through Wardrobe

We sit down with you and look at what you brought. You don’t need to have it all figured out — we help you decide what works best and what feels like you. Once you head into hair and makeup (which takes about an hour to an hour and a half), that’s when we get to work.

Step Two: We Match the Set to You

If you bring in bold colors or rich textures, we might pull out our dusty rose velvet bed and pair it with a dramatic wall and moody lighting. If you bring black lace with strong energy, we might go for dark bedding and layered shadows on a sleek black wall.

We make changes every day. Sometimes that means switching bedding. Other times we move an entire bed into a new corner, change the lighting, or hang a specific backdrop that ties it all together.

No two sessions ever look the exactly same.

The Beds We Use

Right now, we rotate between several options:

  • Our dusty rose velvet bed, which brings drama and softness all in one

  • Two fully movable beds we place wherever we need

  • An air mattress (yes, really) when we want a layered, low, cozy feel

We pair each with different walls — black, moody teal green, smoky gray, or crisp white — and always change out the bedding, pillows, and textures to match the wardrobe you choose.

A Real Example

This client brought a deep blue lingerie set that immediately caught my eye. I knew it needed something bold to complement it, so I hung our large floral backdrop filled with rich color and contrast. I styled the bed in matching blue tones to create depth and let the light fall softly across her skin. The result was a stunning, moody scene that felt elegant, powerful, and completely unique to her.

Why This Matters

You’re not walking into a pre-set studio with a one-size-fits-all setup. You’re walking into a space we build around you. Your vibe. Your style. Your wardrobe.

We’ll guide you the entire way — from outfits to sets to posing — and make sure the space feels just right.

We’ll talk about chairs in Part 2 of this series and show you how we use them to create some of the most jaw-dropping images we shoot.

Until then, just know this: when you show up, we’ve already got the vision ready.

XOXO,
Lindsey
