Self-Love Shopping: A Guide to Finding Flattering Lingerie for Your Body Type
Ready to Find Flattering Lingerie for Your Body Type?
Hey there, beautiful. Do you have an upcoming boudoir session or are you simply just looking for lingerie that fits your body type in a way that makes you wanna strut your stuff? Well first let us say this, here at our body-positive studio we believe that no matter what your body type or shape is, if what you put on makes you feel fab, sexy and beautiful then you should wear it and flaunt it. That being said, we do get asked often, “WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?” in slightly shaky voices from our girls with booked sessions, so we devised this little bloggity-blog if you are wondering the same.
Generally speaking we all tend to fall into one of these body type categories; Round/Apple, Hourglass, Triangle/Pear, Rectangle, or Inverted (upside down) Triangle. No matter what your body shape is you are beautiful so please remember ultimately what makes you feel great is all that truly matters, being ashamed of our body shapes because the magazines tell us that the “hourglass” is the only acceptable shape we are officially calling bullshit on…all bodies are sexy bodies and deserve to be celebrated! Whew, so now that we got that off our chest let’s dig into what types of lingerie are suggested by the “experts” in accentuating all the different shapes of the female form.
The Inverted Triangle shape is defined as a woman with broader shoulders. If your shoulders tend to be more broad than your hips you may find that anything with a halter neck feels flattering. Low rise panties, a.k.a. hip huggers that sit on or slightly below your hip bones are a go-to for this shape as well. Do you have a flatter bum? Try a ruched or ruffle panty too.
The Round/Apple shape is described as a body that is round from the waist up. If your upper body is round and wider than your bottom half try a babydoll, a long nightgown with a side slit in the leg or a teddy that is tight at the top and defines your bust line. That tight-at-the-top, flowing-at-the-bottom fit can help you feel voluptuous in all the right places.
The Hourglass shape is the “36-24-36” description that if you are anything like me, you can’t help but hear Mr. Sir Mix-a-Lot in your head rapping about this in the early 90’s...Did I just give away my age? Ha! The hourglass body type typically has shoulders proportionate to her hips and a slimmer waist. High leg panties and bodysuits can be rocked by you, and luckily for you the 80’s are back in full force right now if that’s your thing. Garter belts and teddies are also very flattering on this body type.
The Triangle/Pear shape tends to have a fuller hip and smaller shoulders. Should I reference Sir Mix-a-Lot again? Ok, I’m going to…with this shape he says, “baby got back” too. So if you have full hips and a full bust try something that is tight at the top to accentuate “the ladies” and flows around your hips if that is an area that you are less confident about. If you are all about flaunting your curves like a Kardashian, but have smaller breasts a plunging neckline on a bodysuit or teddy may help you channel your booty-ful figure. See what I did there?
The Rectangle shape mostly resembles a rectangle, so basically from your shoulders to your hips you have pretty straight lines. Anything that cinches at the waist may help you feel like goddess. Corsets and bustiers are your main choices for waist cinching. If you have a long torso try a garter belt. Ruching and ruffles on the lingerie can also help create a more curvy appearance.
So there you have it, a basic guide to finding lingerie that can help you embrace your tantalizing body type and feel stunningly sexy at your next boudoir photoshoot, in the bedroom, and on your next self-love shopping spree.
